Monica I. Gauvin

Monica Irene Gauvin, 57, passed away July 23, 2026, with family by her side after a six-month battle with cancer at UMass-Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus, Worcester.

Monica was born in Leominster on August 27, 1968, the youngest child of the late Joseph D.H. and Shirley W. (Nelson) Gauvin. She lived her entire life in Leominster, moving from her childhood home on Colburn Street to Brooks Pond a few years ago.

Monica was a 1986 graduate of Leominster High School, later earning her bachelor’s degree from Emmanuel College. Monica took great pride in her work as an Executive Assistant at several companies over the years, including Cowen Investments, Lucent Technologies, and Dell/EMC.

Time spent with family was always first and foremost for Monica. She was always there to care, support, and love those around her. If someone was in need of help, Monica was one of the first to lend a hand. Whether it was vacationing in Maine, traveling to California and Arizona, or celebrating with her siblings and cousins, Monica was happiest when surrounded by family.

Monica embraced her role as an aunt with extraordinary devotion. “Aunt Mo” loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own: Guinevere, Brooke, Erin, Rachel, Michael, Alex, Thomas, and Aubrey, as well as nine great-nieces and nephews.

Monica found immense joy in the magic of Disney. To her, Disney wasn't just about films or theme parks; It represented a world where dreams come true, kindness always wins and wonder never fades. Monica lived life with that same optimism, constantly reminding us to keep wishing upon the star and to never lose our inner child.

In addition to her parents, Monica was predeceased by her eldest brother Michael E. Gauvin. Monica leaves behind her siblings, Mark S. (Hal White), Matthew J. (Dana), Marycatherine (Pat Maguire), and Michelle A. Brennan (Bruce). Among her many cousins and relatives, she also leaves three who were like brothers: Bill (Erin), Jimi (Jeanne), and Sean McNiff.

Monica was brave, courageous, and grateful to be surrounded by family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues who showered her with compassion and love every single day. Additionally, Monica was relieved and thankful to be cared for by the expert team of doctors, nurses, and support staff at UMass- Memorial – Memorial Campus, Worcester.

Monica’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main Street, Leominster. Gifts in Monica’s memory may be donated to Ginny’s Helping Hand (ginnyshelpinghand.org) or the Make a Wish Foundation (wish.org).
