LEOMINSTER---Murray H. Smith passed away on December 27, 2018, after a brief illness. He was born in Leominster, October 13, 1932, to Thompson G. Smith and Viola E. (Hiltz) Smith.
Murray is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jean H. Smith; his two sons, Mark M. Smith and his wife Debra of Winter Springs, FL; Christopher C. Smith and his wife, Aileen of New York, NY; two step children Lisa Dumais and her partner Michael LaVarnway, and Rick Dumais of New York.
He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Priscilla Keefe Smith in 1994, and his brother, Stanley Smith in 1992.
He also leaves five grandsons: Timothy Smith and his wife, Emily, Daniel Smith, Oliver Wilder-Smith, Jake Wilder-Smith, and Jacob LaVarnway; two step grandsons Thomas Emerling and Ryan Emerling; two great grandchildren, Andy Smith and Lily Smith, as well as nieces and nephews and many loving friends and family.
Murray was lifelong resident of Leominster. He graduated from Leominster High School and Fitchburg State College. Murray taught history and was a guidance counselor at Littleton High School his entire career. He was a longtime member of Pilgrim Congregational Church.
Murray loved to travel to historic sites and followed all local sports teams. In retirement he enjoyed endless hours searching for antiques and collectibles throughout New England, researching their origins and selling many in flea markets in Brimfield, MA and southern NH.
Murray’s funeral service will be held on Monday, December 31st at 10 am in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 30th from 6-8 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Murray’s name may be made to a charity of ones choice.
