Obituary

Leominster - Ralph James Peters died on Sunday August 13, 2023 at the UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA.

He was born in Leominster, Massachusetts on March 11, 1933, son of the late Henry & Susan (Verge) Peters.

He grew up in Leominster, MA. He was proud of being a Leominster paper boy and often talked about his bike route delivering papers and getting tips. He also spent time with his dad painting houses as a young boy. He joined the Army in 1953 and was stationed in Korea and later given an Honorable discharge on January 7, 1955. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. He later attended the Veterans meetings in Leominster and he enjoyed volunteering to hand out The Story of the VFW “Buddy Poppy” Flyers and Flags during Veteran events.

He met Pearl and they were married in 1958.

He had worked in Colonial Press of Clinton, Eussey Press of Leominster and Heffernan Press of Worcester, along with a few second jobs. He was a member of Global Gym and spent many years going for his workouts and talking with his friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed feeding and watching his “Blue birds” and building bird houses, as well as tending to his garden.

He is predeceased by his late wife, Pearl Downer (Hamilton) (Sullivan) Peters, she passed in 2014. She was an amazing wife to him and a great mom to her children. He leaves his son, Jim and wife Mannie of Leominster, daughter, Laura Neuberg of Leominster, daughter Carol Paul and husband Mike Paul of Gardner, step daughter Sandra Svenson and husband Don Svenson of Ashburnham, step son, William Sullivan of Clinton, stepson Michael Sullivan and wife Ellen of Leominster. His sister, Susan Miller and sister-in-law Rena Peters (wife of the late Uncle “Pete”) and his nephew Gerry Peters. He also leaves his grandchildren, Christopher, Jessie, Heather Peters; Brandi and Amanda Neuberg; Crystal, Michael and Matthew Paul; Jennifer and Beth Svenson; Michael, , William Jr. Sullivan, Penny and Carrie Ignachuck; Lynne, Anna, Nancy and Roger Drury; Michael Jr. and his wife Nancy, Sheila, Lauren Sullivan, and several great grandchildren.

Predeceased by son in law, Frank Neuburg, granddaughter, Erin Sullivan, granddaughter, Christine and Alicia Sullivan, stepdaughter, Paula (Sullivan) Ignachuck and husband Michael, stepdaughter, Nancy (Sullivan) Drury and husband Roger. Predeceased by his siblings, Alice Hawkins, Eleanor Young, Elizabeth Ledger and Patricia Hickman; Henry (Uncle Pete) Peters Jr. and Edward Peters. Nieces by marriage, Evelyn Ferraro and the late Cynthia Young.

A special thanks to his neighbor Neal and his Veteran Comrades of Leominster. A special thanks to all the staff at UMass Memorial in Worcester for the excellent care they gave in his last days of life, as well as Reliant Geriatrics and the Home Health Aides.
