Richard Moore Obituary

Richard T. Moore passes away suddenly at the age of 91 on December 23, 2023 after living a full life.

He was born July 21, 1932 in Fitchburg to the late John H. and Arlene (Lafrenier) Moore. He suffered loss early when his mother died of tuberculosis when he was eight years old. Even though his father married again to M. Elizabeth Hawes, he was raised in large part by Harriett Ashe Moore, his grandmother. He graduated in 1950 from Ashby high school and served in the Marines from 1952 to 1955. He earned an Associates Degree from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in 1957. He worked at Paul Whitten Company, Lilly Chemical and Duesberg-Bosson Woolen Spinning Company. In 1972 Dick purchased Leominster Shell, later Leominster Citgo, which he ran for 48 years until he retired. He enjoyed an active lifestyle until the end. He will be remembered for trips to the Cape, garage sales and flea markets, baked beans and hot dogs for Saturday night dinner, polka dances, Christmas Day drive-by visits, seeing value in everything and loving his family.

Preceding him in death was his wife of Dorothy (Michaelson) Moore, sisters, Margaret Caisse and Dorothy Worthley, and brother John Moore Jr.

He is survived by sons Rodney (Tracy) Moore of Gardner, Jeffrey Moore of Leominster, daughters Leslie (Paul) Spell of Elkmont, AL and Lizabeth (Doug) Meier of Newport News, VA. He was Grampa Moore to Melissa (Shane) Fleming, Samantha (Tom) Maio, Jeffrey Moore Jr, Isaac Spell, Nicholas (Hanna) Meier, Brian (Kaitlyn) Meier, Matthew and John Meier as well as 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by nephews Jimmy Caisse and Stephen (Judy) Moore and niece Cindy Goguen.
