Richard Vaughn Obituary

Richard (Dick) Vaughn of Leominster, MA passed away on Saturday, January 10th after a sudden illness. He was born in Milford, MA to Everett Vaughn and Ruth (Bassett) Vaughn, and he grew up in Uxbridge, MA, graduating from Uxbridge High School. He was a proud graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he established life-long friendships with his SAE fraternity brothers. Dick began his career at GE in Fitchburg and he enjoyed continued success at Harding Co. in Boston. Ultimately, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a math teacher late in his career.

He leaves behind his wife, Ann, his daughter, Amy (Keene, NH), his son J. (Holyoke, MA), his sister Ruth Vaughn-Phillips (Ashland, MA), his beloved nieces and nephews, Tracy Smith, Lisa Markham, Jeff Phillips and Scott Donham, and his foster-sons, Robbie and Shane. He was predeceased by his son, Brian, and his sister, Susan Donham.

Dick was an active and inspiring change-agent in his community. He was a devoted member and Sunday School teacher at Pilgrim Congregational Church for many years. He was also a dedicated minor league and tee-ball coach for North Leominster Little League for 25 years and served as league president for some years as well.

At the tender age of 55, Dick began teaching at Fitchburg High School. While there, he became passionately involved in mentoring programs and continued to mentor and positively impact many college-bound students throughout his retirement.

He loved a bad joke, a good quote and he could be counted upon to regularly share inspiration from The Writer's Almanac. He and his wife shared a love for dogs, often taking in those needing special attention.

The graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25, 11:00 A.M. at Evergreen Cemetery, 357 Main St., Leominster.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Horatio Alger Scholarship Fund or The ARC of Opportunity of North Central Massachusetts. All who knew and loved Dick are encouraged to honor his legacy by seeking opportunities to be of service to others and a STAR ⭐ , Someone Taking Active Responsibility.
