Rick Cairns, 58, died unexpectedly Wednesday January 22nd. He was born August 23rd, 1966, in Lowell, MA to Marjorie ad Richard Cairns. He has been residing in New Hampshire for the past 18 years, and has built a community in Swanzey, Keene and Fitzwilliam.
Rick spent the early decades of his life giving back to the community by providing support and mentorship to adults and at-risk youth in the human services profession. He was dedicated to helping others. In the most recent years, he worked in the car industry. He was a car enthusiast, loved his mustangs, and the challenge of figuring out how things worked. Rick spent his life focusing on his true passions, cars, the Bruins, and his daughter, Alex.
Rick had a motivation to fix things, most of the time cars, but he was always the one to call when anything went wrong. He knew a little bit, about most things. Rick loved to talk, if you knew him, you knew answering the phone meant maybe never getting off the phone. He enjoyed passing the time with his community of friends and family. Rick talked about his daughter constantly, he loved her more than anything. He was incredibly proud of her success and who she grew up to be. He often stated his favorite thing in the world was being a dad to Alex.
Rick loved all sports, but you could see from a mile away he was truly the #1 fan of the Boston Bruins. He had been to hundreds of games over his lifetime, shared those experiences with friends, family, and even strangers. If you were a fan of the B’s he was a fan of you. His collection of game worn memorabilia was like nothing you have ever seen. There is no doubt he spent more time watching games, attending events, collecting, reading, investigating and loving the Boston Bruins than any other passion.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Doyle in April of 2023 and his sister, Penny Gravina in February 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Alexandrya Cairns; her mother; Carly Sebastian; his sister, Pamela Anderson; his aunt, Georgia Callahan, his nephews, Tim Anderson, Tom Anderson, Dan Gravina; and his niece, Kelly Gravina; and his two grandnephews, Connor and Evan.
At this time the family will not be holding in-person services. Rick walked many avenues in life, knew countless people and lived a tremendous number of experiences. In lieu of services or sending flowers, his family asks that you share photos and stories on this page.
