Robert H. Barclay, aged 83, of Leominster, MA, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, after a short illness, with family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce E. (Wesley) Barclay; daughter, Jean E. (Barclay) Sutton and her husband Jim of Endicott, NY; sons: William S. and Charles R. Barclay of Easton, PA; and brother, James D. Barclay and his wife Natalie of Wichita, KS.
He is also survived by four grandchildren: Sparrow (Sutton) Mahecha of PA; Chance, Devin, and Whisper Sutton of NY; and three great-grandchildren: Annzabeth and Ember Mahecha of PA; and Miles Sutton of NY; Brothers-in-law: Alan Wesley; Steven Wesley and wife Jill; and sister-in-law, Marcia (Wesley) Bisson and husband Jim; Niece, Jennifer (Barclay) Walker of KS; Nephews: Andrew and David Bisson of PA; Scot Barclay of KS; and Alex and Spencer Wesley of NY.
Robert was born on March 14, 1941 in Winthrop, MA to his parents: Robert D. Barclay of Aberdeen, Scotland, who died in 1990, and Mildred H. (Loucks) Barclay of Schoharie, NY, who died in 2001. He graduated from Ayer High School in 1958 and, prior to his military service, worked at the Post Exchange at Fort Devens, MA. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and the Order of DeMolay.
Robert attended the Andover Institute of Business, to study computer programming. He entered into the U.S. Air Force in 1962 and served with distinction until he left the service in 1967 having obtained the rank of Airman 1st class. His employers over 40+ years were U.S. Steel of Worcester, MA, General Electric of Fitchburg, MA, and Staples in Framingham, MA. He was an exemplary employee.
Robert was a very family-oriented person and loved nothing better than spending time with his children and his parents and brother. He was also a very humble man and enjoyed helping others including working at the LUMC Food Pantry.
He was an AVID Boston sports fan with his 2 favorite teams being the Red Sox and the Celtics. He did get to see the Celtics open the defense of their most recent championship season on the Tuesday before he passed.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the UMass Medical Center for the exceptional care that was provided to Robert during his hospitalization, and kindness to the family.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 4 at United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. with a burial in Evergreen Cemetery to follow.
