Robert Healy Obituary

Robert L. Healy, a cherished educator, musician, and pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, in Worcester, MA. Born on December 6, 1946, in Boston, MA, Robert's life was defined by his dedication to the arts, education, and the warmth of his generous spirit.

Robert graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1964 and went on to earn his degree from Fitchburg State College in 1968, setting the stage for a lifelong commitment to learning and teaching. He followed in the footsteps of his musically gifted parents, Daniel and Helen (Curry) Healy, and his uncle, Hugh Curry, a conductor for the US Army Band, cultivating a deep love for music that would resonate throughout his life.

For 35 years, Robert's passion for education shone brightly at Leominster High School, where he served as both a math teacher and an administrator. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, as he produced and directed musical plays for both Leominster and St. Bernard's High Schools. His dedication to the performing arts was further evidenced by his 20 years of producing and conducting Starburst in Leominster, a testament to his commitment to fostering local talent and community spirit.

Robert's love for the gridiron was equally matched by his love for the stage, coaching football and earning a place in the LHS Football Hall of Fame for the teams he was part of. His leadership and mentorship shaped the lives of countless young athletes.

A life member of the New Player Theatre Guild, Robert directed countless plays, leaving an indelible mark on the local theater scene. His musical prowess continued as he took up the baton as Ashby Band Conductor and led the Big Band at the Johnny Appleseed Festival. His contributions to the cultural fabric of Leominster were recognized when he was named Leominster Citizen of the Year in June 2007.

Robert's selfless nature was evident in his readiness to help anyone in need, be they a student, colleague, or friend. He believed in the transformative power of kindness and lived his life as a testament to that belief. His love for music was unparalleled, and for Robert, playing music was not just a pastime, it was his whole life.

In his personal life, Robert found joy in the companionship of his beloved dogs, all of whom he adopted from Cape Cod Animal Shelters. He is survived by his devoted sister, Mary Healy of Yarmouth, MA; his cousin, Linda Curry of Virginia; and his nephew, Charles L. Kostopoulos of Leominster. Robert was predeceased by his loving wife, Gail Lois Healy; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles A. Kostopoulos and Alanda Kostopoulos, and his parents.

Robert's legacy is one of selflessness, kindness, and love. He approached life with a loving heart, always ready to extend a hand or share a moment of music. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire those who walk the halls of the schools he so dearly loved, and the stages he brought to life with his passion and dedication.

As we bid farewell to Robert L. Healy, we reflect on a life beautifully lived and a soul that truly made a difference. His melody will forever play in the hearts of those who loved him, and the echoes of his influence will resonate for generations to come.
