Ronald "Ron" Bates, aged 81, passed away peacefully in his home in Rhode Island on January 4, 2025. Born on December 1, 1943, in Leominster to the late Clarence and Flora (Barnes) Bates.
Ron was a man known for his generous spirit, courageous heart, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. Ron's early life in Leominster laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors. His academic journey led him to excel in his studies, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts, followed by two Master's degrees—one in Business Administration and another in Taxation from Bentley College. These qualifications paved the way for a successful career where he established himself as a respected Certified Public Accountant. Self-employed, Ron dedicated his life to providing meticulous and trustworthy services to his clients, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Beyond his professional life, Ron was a man of many interests. His bountiful garden was a testament to his patience and attention to detail. Ron's passion for wine-making allowed him to blend his love for gardening with his appreciation for the finer things in life. An avid boater, Ron loved being out on Narragansett Bay enjoying the sea and the sun. Playing cards was another of Ron’s pastimes. A fierce competitor, poker was his favorite.
Ron's life was a reflection of the words that best described him—generous, spirited, and courageous. His generosity was not limited to material things but extended to his time, advice, and unwavering support. Family was the cornerstone of Ron's world.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judith, his daughter, Suzanne Bates and son-in-law Charles Cowles, Ron was predeceased by his son, Ronald David Bates, but the legacy of his love and guidance remains a cherished memory for all who knew him. As we bid farewell to Ron, we celebrate a life well-lived and a life filled with passion, dedication, and an abundance of love. He will be deeply missed.
