Ruth E. MacPherson, 87, of Salem, NH, formerly of Leominster, MA passed away on May 25th, 2016 surrounded by her family at Salemhaven Nursing Center, Salem, NH. Born June 18th, 1928 in Fitchburg, MA she is predeceased by her parents Oscar and Monnie Sanborn, her late husband of 48 years, Robert P. MacPherson Sr., and sisters Phyllis Caron, Florence Sinclair, and Muriel Craigue.
Ruth held several secretarial positions, retiring from Leominster Hospital Medical Records Department in 1990. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her sisters.. After moving to Salem, NH Ruth became involved in the senior community and became an avid square dancer, bowler, card player, and quilter. She was also a talented knitter sharing her skills with everyone who knew her. Ruth touched many lives through her volunteer work with the Salem Caregivers, the Adopt a Grandparent Program at the Fisk School and organizing activities for the Telfer Circle Association. Ruth was a long standing member the Order of Eastern Star, The Daughters of the American Revolution and the Rebekhah’s holding several local and state offices. Over the years Ruth stayed active in her church community as well, as a Sunday school teacher, Youth Leader, member of the finance committee and board of trustees.
Ruth is survived by her son, Robert P. MacPherson Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Bedford, NH, her daughter Constance M. Reusch and her husband Andrew N. Reusch Sr. of Salem, NH,; four grandchildren, Meg Matthews and her husband Scott, Amy O’Connell and her husband Todd, Andrew Reusch Jr., and Erin K. Bickford and her husband Emery,; seven great grandchildren, Katey, TJ, Brady, and Logan O’Connell, Julia and Hannah Matthews, and Finnegan Bickford; her sister Barbara Gulliver of Leominster, and several devoted nieces and nephews.
Ruth’s family wish to extend their deepest appreciation to the entire staff of Salemhaven Nursing Center for their continual compassion and care especially the nursing staff on the 2nd floor unit.
Ruth’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10 am in the Leominster United Methodist Church, 77 Hall Street, Leominster. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 30th from 4-7 pm in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster.
