It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Samuel C. “Sam” Norton, 26, of Leominster on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
He leaves his loving mother, Kristen, her partner Peter, his two sisters who he loved dearly, Lucy and Maggie and his girlfriend, Meghan Summers. Sam is also remembered by a large extended family including several living aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Timothy Norton.
He was born and raised in Leominster. Sam graduated from Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Class of 2015. He was heavily involved in extracurriculars while at SJ. Sam was a three-year varsity football player, played lacrosse, volunteered for Campus Ministry activities among other roles. Everyone in the hallways always looked up to Sam as he was a leader on the field and drove others to do better in the classroom.
Sam then attended the University of Massachusetts and Boston College. His passion for sports continued at BC as he played on the club rugby team. While at college, Sam left an immediate impact on everyone he met. After graduating Sam moved to New York City where he began a successful career in the finance industry working for Goldman Sachs and Gamut Capital.
New York City is also where Sam’s passion for competitive running really grew. He joined various running clubs and competed in long-distance races. Sam started running and racing with the Orchard Street Runners and even co-founded the Almost Friday Run Club in New York in 2022, and from the beginning was described as a “light in our community”. Sam was a leader for the group, helping plan events, and encouraging all runners to do their best.
Throughout the years and during all of life’s challenges, Sam remained close with his high school friends. He was their biggest fan and was always the first person they’d call with good news and bad news.
Sam was extremely dedicated to any task set before him. He was a model student, co-worker, trusted friend, and loved his family to his core. While we will always miss Sam, we will never forget what he taught us: Work hard and be nice.
The legacy of Sam Norton now enters a new chapter, and we find peace knowing his memory will be with us forever.
