HUBBARDSTON --- Sandra A. (Greenough) Helenius, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 1 after a brief illness. She was 77 years old.
Daughter to Barbara and Robert Greenough, Sandra was born and raised in Leominster Ma. She was educated in Leominster and worked various jobs throughout her young life. She was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grammy to her 10 grandchildren. She had a quiet demeanor coupled with a personality that allowed her to make friends everywhere she went. Not surprising to those who knew her well, she had an adventurous side. Learning to ride and own her own motorcycle, cruising the Alaskan glacial waters and traveling by train plane boat and automobile to undiscovered unique locations, coupled with her later in life love of Vineyard tours and tastings are a few things that made her life so colorful and happy. She was equally as comfortable at home with her husband, of nearly 60 years, frequenting their favorite restaurants, crocheting the day away creating a blanket obsession passed on to each and every child/grandchild, as she was taking day trips exploring New England, attending every child's event she could and exploring new states, islands and countries side by side with her partner for life.
The endless bragging about her 10 grandchildren, who brought her joy and laughter, was further evidenced as soon as you enter her home. Walking through it is like a walk down memory lane as the walls, shelves and refrigerator are filled with photographs, through the decades, of not only her grandchildren and children but also those she treasured and ones she called her guardian angels. Her life was a living example of family values. She was the glue that bound her family together and the essence of true pure unfiltered, nonjudgmental and abundant love.
She will be sorely missed and is survived by her devoted husband Rudolf, Buzz to her, whose love and devotion started at a very young age and, in his words, will never end. Her children; Barbara (Helenius) Lampugnale, David Helenius, Bonnie (Helenius) Menard, son-in-law Pasquale Lampugnale, daughter-in-law Dawn Helenius, son-in-law Mike Menard, former daughter-in-law Cindy Helenius (Hansen). Grandchildren; Brittany, Bethany, Grace, Gabriela, Faith, and Peyton, Eric and Alex, Tristen and Hunter. Brothers; Robert Greenough and David Greenough with wife Jacqueline among many other treasured family members including many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are welcome to a casual memorial celebration of her life at Richardson Funeral Home 106 West St. Leominster MA, on Monday, July 5, from 2 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. donors@stjude.org
