Sandra J. "Sandy" (Reid) Merrill

FITCHBURG --- Sandra (Sandy) Jean (Lancey) (Simonds) Merrill, 77 years old of Fitchburg, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 8, 2022, after a prolonged illness.

Sandy was born in Fitchburg, MA on February 19, 1945, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1963. She worked for 20 years at St. Bernard's Elementary School as the school secretary before working at First Eastern Mortgage as a loan originator.  She retired after working for years with her husband Michael Merrill at his painting business.

Sandy had a zest for life and enjoyed so many escapades with her friends and family.  Her sparkling smile and blue eyes exuded her true happiness. She loved to dance and was always ready for fun and a spontaneous game of Scrabble and Monopoly.

Sandy’s health struggles were certainly a challenge, but her strong spirit showed those around her how resilient she truly was.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 29 years, Michael W. Merrill, her daughter Missy Eckstein and her beloved son in law, Eric, her daughter Lisa Foley and her husband Jamie. She is also survived by her 3 stepchildren, Jennifer Merrill, Keith Merrill and Samantha Ramos as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Sandy is predeceased by her parents, Troy L. Reid and Allie (Karvonen) Reid and her brother, Forrest Lancey. 

Sandy will be missed by so many, but there are a few that she held most dear; her sister-in-law, Diane Bartie of FL, her best friend since high school, Gail Breitenbecker of FL, Diane Moquin of Fitchburg, Mary Ellen Longo of Uxbridge and Sheri Jordan, of Fitchburg, and Rhonda Festa of CT, both of whom were like daughters to her. 

She also cherished her grand dog, Maddie who was a bright spot in Sandy's life and always brought a smile to her face.
