FITCHBURG---Sarah Posco of Fitchburg, died peacefully of natural causes on April 22, 2016 at the age 94. The second oldest of six siblings of Joseph and Josie Falzone, Sarah grew up during the Great Depression. From an early age, Sarah showed a very determined and strong willed personality. She was the first in her family to get a high school diploma and to live independently. Immediately after high school, Sarah completed her hairdresser certification in Worcester and worked as a hairdresser for several years in Fitchburg. She married Paul Joseph Posco in 1945 and together had three sons: Dennis who died tragically at childbirth, Paul Thomas and Kenneth. To those who knew her, Sarah mixed her outgoing nature with a sharp sense of humor and a feisty Sicilian temper. Sarah and her husband Paul loved Florida, where they maintained a winter residence after retirement. But family always drew her back to the Fitchburg area. Her mother Josie’s kitchen was often the center of family activities. Gatherings of the extended family always included Josie’s homemade pizza and card games of skat. Sarah also had much joy with grandchildren who later came into her life. In 1989, when husband Paul died after a sudden illness, Sarah continued to live on her own. The last few years of her life were spent in a nursing home. Sarah was predeceased by her sisters Mary, Lena, Jenny and Gemma and brother Sam. She is survived by son Paul and wife Linda, son Ken and grandchildren Meghan and Gregory. Rest in peace Sarah. And enjoy your mom’s pizza!
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 28th from 4-6 pm in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. Burial will be private in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg.
