Shane Hoover Obituary

Shane M. Hoover, a man whose laughter could light up a room and whose sense of humor was as legendary as his track records, left our world on June 10, 2024, at the age of 47. Born on September 8, 1976, Shane grew up in Lunenburg, MA and settled his family in Ashburnham, MA where he was currently residing.

A proud graduate of Lunenburg High School, Class of ‘95, Shane carried his spirit of friendship and community into his college years at Colby-Sawyer College, where he graduated in 1999.  Shane's academic achievements were only outpaced by his athletic ones. He left behind a legacy of multiple broken track records that, much like the man himself, will be hard to beat. His professional life was just as successful.  He was currently a respected colleague at Winchester Savings Bank as the Assistant Treasurer/Residential Underwriting Manager after holding various positions over the years during his banking career including titles at Rollstone Bank, DCU, and GFA.

Above all, Shane’s favorite title was “Dad” and his greatest accomplishments are his children. He was in his glory when they were born and he became a Dad. Shane was a devoted, loving and incredibly proud father to Simon, Sadie, and Senna. He instilled in them the values of humor, kindness, and friendship, guiding them with a gentle hand and an open heart. He tried to make every ordinary day as special as he could for them in all the little things he did.  Whether it be endless snuggles on the recliner while watching movies, the breakfast he would make every Saturday so the kids would wake up to the smell of homefries, or how he would blast the best tunes in order to get them pumped up for sports while always instilling his “Play For YOU” motto before games.  The legacy of his love, laughter and caring ways, lives on through them, a tribute to the wonderful father he was.

A thoughtful and loving son, beloved by his parents Cheryl (Quinn) and Greg Renaud, the brother who could always be counted on for a knowing look, a silly giggle, and a hug to siblings Stacy (Hoover) and Michael Ciccolini, Danielle Shepard and Shannon Hoover.  Uncle to nieces and nephews Julia Ciccolini, Brandon Ciccolini, “Nephew Justin” Ciccolini, Norah Duval and James Duval.  Nephew to many aunts and uncles, Godson to Kathy (Quinn) Bryce and Jay Quinn, and Godfather to Ashlea Scruton, Julia Ciccolini and Norah Duval. He also leaves many cousins and extended family as well as all the friends who became family, especially his lifelong friend Jay Caforio and his band of brothers from Colby-Sawyer College.

Shane's life was a testament to the joy that can be found in the simple things: listening to a good acoustic set, the warmth of a fire under the stars, and the sound of laughter echoing across the water. Shane found solace and joy in hanging at the lake, boating, camping, and sharing stories around a bonfire. A simple beer with friends was a source of great pleasure and many laughs. As a guy who never took himself too seriously, he created memories that would be treasured by all who were lucky enough to be part of those moments. Friends knew that an invitation from Shane meant good times and great laughs.  In his college years he developed a penchant for cooking and mixology that he enjoyed showcasing as the “Grill Master” or while hosting his annual Christmas parties. Getting the band back together every year was a personal mission of his heart. It was in these moments that Shane's jovial nature shone brightest.

Those who knew Shane understood that life with him was a non-stop adventure filled with laughter and mischief. He had an uncanny ability to turn even the most mundane moments into the best memories. His wit was as sharp as his mind, and his jokes became the stuff of family legend often leaving everyone in stitches with his witty observations.  He was truly one of a kind.  His humor, sarcastic wit, numerous inside jokes, kind heart, and his readiness to lend a helping hand are hallmarks of his character that will be deeply missed.

Shane's legacy is not just in the records he set or the deals he closed, but in the way he touched our lives. To meet Shane was to laugh with Shane, and to know him was to love him. Shane was the reminder we all needed that life is better when you're chuckling. He had a knack for finding humor in every corner of life.  In remembering Shane, picture him now, telling a joke with a twinkle in his eye, making heaven a little brighter.  His stories will be retold, his jokes will continue to echo, and his laughter will linger in the places he loved the most.

Shane's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who shared in his life. His memory will be cherished, his presence sorely missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his legacy will be forever woven into the fabric of the lives he touched. His laughter, love, and light will forever remain in our hearts.  May Shane rest in peace, knowing that he was truly loved and that his time on earth was a gift to us all.

In Shane’s honor and in the words of Dave Mathews, always remember, “EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY”.
