LEOMINSTER- Stephen E. Owen, Jr. of Leominster, died Thursday, December 16 at Health Alliance Hospital after a brief illness.
Stephen was born July 15, 1927 in Leominster, son of the late Stephen E. Sr. and Doris (Moquin) Owen and has lived in Leominster his entire life. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII serving on the NTC Sampson, the USS YMS 340 and the USS Scania. Stephen worked as a dispatcher for Purolator before his retirement.
Stephen was passionate about tomato gardening. He would begin sowing the tomatoes from seed in the Winter. He took great pride in his harvest. He shared the bounty with loved ones and enjoyed his tomato sandwiches daily. An avid outdoorsman, Stephen enjoyed fishing in his younger years and hunting for many years. Stephen was a regular at Tim’s Diner.
Stephen was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Theresa “Mike” (Pichette) Owen and his siblings, James Owen and Beverly Daukantas.
He leaves his son, Michael S. Owen and his wife Amy of Leominster; two daughters, Linda Ann Gibbons, wife of the late John Gibbons of Scottdale, PA and Susan L. Perkins and husband Barry of Mattapoisett; two grandchildren, Emily Nelson and husband Tim of Pawtucket and Joseph Owen of Leominster.
Calling hours are Tuesday, December 21 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Richardson Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster.
The funeral is Wednesday, December 22 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Leo’s Cemetery.
