Timothy Norton Obituary

Timothy Shawn Norton died on Monday, June 15, 2020 after a long battle with mental illness and addiction at the age of 59. He leaves behind his three beloved children, who embody all of the best things in Tim; Sam, Maggie, and Lucy as well as his ex-wife Kristen Caisse. He was born to the late Phillip A. Norton, Sr. and Louise M. (Dandini) Norton in Attleboro, MA on November 26, 1960 as the fourth of seven children. He is predeceased by his parents and oldest sister Maura L (Norton) Sullivan. He is survived by his five siblings Phillip Norton, Thomas Norton and his wife Becky, Jane Norton and her wife Leslie, Judy (Norton) Senfleben and Julianne (Norton) Duss and her husband Arne. Tim also leaves behind Maura’s husband, Gerald Sullivan and a number of in-laws, nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Tim grew up on Cape Cod having lived in Popponesset and Bourne. He graduated from Bourne High School in 1979 where he excelled in athletics and developed many lifelong friendships. Tim loved spending endless days at Old Silver Beach watching beautiful sunsets with his children, extended family and friends. He enjoyed swimming and playing in the ocean for hours and, by far, always had the biggest bag of beach toys!

Tim was a fierce competitor having participated in Falmouth Road Races, Triathlons, a Half Iron Man, Boston Marathons, Tough Mudder and Spartan Races over the years. Whether it was a friendly game of pick-up basketball or a family game of pirate ball, Tim’s mischievous spirit and competitiveness often led to creative rule changes or interpretations that usually slanted the score in his favor. Tim was an avid fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins. Without question, he most enjoyed watching his children and extended family members coach, compete and excel in athletics as they earned many championships through the years.

Tim founded and owned Apex Properties. While Tim worked as a Commercial Real Estate Investment Broker for his company, he spent his life committed to community service. Tim coached his children and youth sports through the Leominster Recreation Department. He served as the Vice Chair of the North Central Massachusetts Boys and Girls Club. He also chaired its Capital and Endowment Campaign and founded the Annual Boys and Girls Club Dual 5 K Great Futures Race. Additionally, Tim served as a parent representative for several Leominster Public School District’s committees. Tim was the recipient of the Boys and Girls Club Distinguished Service Award and the Mount Wachusett Community College Presidential Commendation Service Above Self Award.

We will remember Tim as the charismatic and caring person that he was at his core. We are grief stricken and saddened that mental illness and addiction can rob us of those we love.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tim’s memory to help his children’s pursuit of academic excellence; Boston College, University of Florida and Providence College. Donations can be sent to the Norton Children College Fund - Care of Enterprise Bank located at 65 Main Street Leominster, MA 01453.

Funeral services are private due to the COVID-19 restrictions. A second celebration of Tim’s life will be held at a later date on Cape Cod.
