Veronica Mary (Civita) Buono

Veronica “Roni” Buono passed away at her home on July 16, 2026, at the age of 66.

Born on June 9, 1960, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Roni was the beloved daughter of Vincent and Virginia (Cody) Civita. She graduated from Leominster High School with the Class of 1978 and went on to attend Fitchburg State College.

Her son, Michael, was the center of Roni’s heart throughout her life. She is survived by her beloved son, Michael Buono and his wife, Alyssa (Belcher) Buono, of Fitchburg; her cherished grandchildren, Michael and Madalie Buono of Fitchburg; her sisters, Virginia Read of Vermont and Vivian Civita and her husband, William Boyden, of Leominster; her brother, Victor Civita of Leominster; her sisters-in-law, Linda Buono and Pamela Doig and her husband, Paul, all of Leominster; many loving nieces and nephews; and her faithful four-legged companion, Honey.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Buono; her parents, Vincent and Virginia (Cody) Civita; her brother, Vincent “Cenzo” Civita Jr.; and her niece, Jennifer Young.

In her younger years, Roni was a gifted athlete. She played field hockey in high school and at Fitchburg State College, enjoyed many years playing softball, and was an accomplished skier. Some of her happiest memories were made at Loon Mountain, where her family belonged to a ski club. During one visit, an Olympic representative approached her father and remarked that Roni had the talent and potential to become an Olympian.

Roni had a deep love for animals and never hesitated to open her heart and home to an animal in need. She also found joy in writing poetry, using her words to express the compassion that defined her.

Above all, Roni had a loving soul. She will be remembered for her warmth, creative spirit, love of family and animals, and her wild luck!

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 5 in the funeral home from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
