William Close Obituary

LEOMINSTER---William C. Close, 69 years old, of Leominster, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Kathryn A. (Bormann) Close, 2 daughters Kristine E. Hogan and her husband Thomas of Quincy and Karyn L. Breton and her husband David of Westminster, son Daniel C. Close and his wife Alison of Norfolk, MA, sister Martha Keaveney and her husband Thomas of Derry, NH and 6 grandchildren Cameron Breton, Ashlyn Breton, Isabelle Hogan, Patrick Hogan, Colton Close and Andon Close.

Bill was born in Waltham on January 18, 1947, son of William C. and Mary Alice (Barnicle) Close, Sr. and had lived in Leominster for the past 41 years. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Waltham and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. In high school and in college he was an all-star pitcher and after graduating from Holy Cross he pitched in the Oakland A’s Organization for a few seasons. Bill had owned Action Moving and Storage, was a manager for Roadway Express and was a salesman for Allied Van Lines. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Leominster.

Bill was a family man and everything he did was for his family. After retiring, his greatest joy was traveling with his family and attending their sporting events. For Bill, every day was game day and there was always time to throw around a baseball.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11 am in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main Street, Leominster. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the North Leominster Little League, P.O. Box 1416, Leominster, MA 01453.
