LEOMINSTER---Sally Ann Belk, 71, of Leominster passed away at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Cambridge, MA on August 5th of complications from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was born December 23, 1945 to the late Frank Sheldon and Raymonde (Benoit) Sheldon in Leominster. She married her husband, Philip Belk on April 18th, 1970. Sally, a graduate of Leominster High School, received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Fitchburg State College, after which she continued to pursue advanced courses in her life’s passion, reading education. She was a member of several professional organizations including, the Leominster Education Association, Massachusetts Education Association, National Education Association and the Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts. Sally was a teacher in the Leominster School system for the entirety of her 35 year professional career; 30 of which were at Johnny Appleseed School. She spent 10 years of her career as a first grade teacher and 25 years as a reading specialist. Sally strongly believed that all children could learn to read and took great joy in assisting in their advances.

Sally’s passions outside of her profession were broad. She enjoyed traveling with husband, spending time with her sons and her grandchildren (especially summers by the pool!), bird watching, music, crafts, solving puzzles, tending to her fish pond, as well as working and gardening in her yard. Sally was also an active member of the Leominster United Methodist Church. She served tenures as both the Superintendent of Education and librarian, sang in the choir and served as a member of many boards.

Sally is survived by her husband of 47 years, Philip Belk of Leominster; her son Matthew of Leominster; her son Jonathan, his wife Michelle and grandchildren Thomas, Sarah and Andrew of Grantham, NH; her mother Raymonde Sheldon of Leominster, her brother Robert Sheldon and his wife Carol of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Jean Sheldon of Leominster, her good friend and the wife of her dear late brother Ronald Sheldon; nieces Julie Boyle, Deborah Sheldon, Kerrie Sheldon and nephew Ronald Sheldon Jr.

Arrangements- Sally’s funeral will be held at the Leominster United Methodist Church, 77 Hall Street, Leominster on Thursday, August 10th at 11 AM. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster.
